Response to the President’s State of the Union Address

“The President missed the message of the 2010 election.  It is not government that creates prosperity.  It is freedom.  We cannot bring about prosperity by locking government spending at unsustainable levels, wasting billions of dollars on subsidies for outrageously inefficient industries, increasing taxes on energy, managing our local schools from Washington and usurping the countless decisions made every day by families, consumers and businesses.

“These policies are squandering our wealth, impoverishing our nation and mortgaging our future.

“After the Republican sweep of 1994, President Clinton heeded the will of the American people.  He declared the era of big government over, he reformed welfare entitlements, he reduced federal spending by a miraculous four percent of GDP and produced an era of solid economic growth, prosperity and budget surpluses.

“I had hoped to see the same humility and pragmatism in the State of the Union address tonight.  I left profoundly disappointed.”

Assemblyman Dan Logue awarded Advocate of the Year

On Friday, January 21st Assemblyman Dan Logue received CABPRO's Advocate of the Year Eagle Award for 2010 for his steadfast focus and fight this past year to defeat AB32 via Prop 23 and putting California Jobs and Economy as the highest priority.  The event was attended by 65 supporters and well-wishers with many speaking out to thank Dan for his hard work and honesty while representing the interests of the 3rd Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes the communities of Butte, Lassen, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sierra and Yuba.

Rebuilding the House

More than a year ago, Pollster Frank Luntz stood before a group of about 40 House Republicans in a cramped conference room. “I need to tell you something,” he said. “I’ve been looking at polling data from Congressional districts across America for the last three months. I’m convinced that you are going to be in the majority next year.” After a long pause, he added, “This time, please don’t screw it up again.”

I don’t think we will.

The message of the last two elections could not be louder or clearer. Great parties are built upon great principles and they are judged by their devotion to those principles. From its inception, the core principles of the Republican party have been individual freedom and constitutionally limited government. The closer it has hewn to these principles, the better it has done. The further it has strayed from them…well, my God!

In the aftermath of the Bush debacle, House Republican leaders resolved to restore traditional Republican principles as the policy and political focus of the party and they achieved something no one at the time thought possible: they united House Republicans as a determined voice of opposition to the Left and rallied the American people. Republicans rediscovered why they were Republicans, and Republican leaders rediscovered Reagan’s advice to paint our positions in bold colors and not hide them in pale pastels.

Companies Fleeing California For Utah Over Confiscatory Tax Rate

Computer software giant Adobe, computer game monster EA Games, and Internet auction king ebay are abandoning California to set up shop in Utah. Why? California’s horrid business climate and high taxes.

Adobe Systems, maker of a suite of graphics programs such as Adobe PDF, Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, have announced that they are building a $100 million facility in either Salt Lake City or in nearby Utah County, Utah. The facility will bring thousands of jobs to Utah over the next few decades.

Last May the Internet auction company ebay also announced a major new facility to be built in Salt Lake City. The $287 million data center will also bring hundreds of new jobs to the Bee Hive State.
