1. What are one or two specific critical issues in our community and how do you plan to address them?
Leadership and infrastructure. Government is not the solution - it is the problem. It is important for the public to elect officials who set the policy and the administration to carry out the policy. In many cases this is just the opposite. We need elected officials who advocate for business and the people, to set the agenda, not bureaucrats who have never signed the front of a check and owned a business. Like the state, some regional governments are hostile to business. Consequently, businesses go where they are welcome. We need to enhance, not restrict our economy, and this is best done by getting government out of the way of the free market.
Infrastructure: I know that transportation and water treatment are of critical significance to Nevada Co. taxpayers. These are large-scale problems that require aggressive and creative solutions. Some solutions require economies of scale; some necessitate public/private partnerships and a free market approach to government. I’m the only candidate in this race to actually form regional coalitions and an ad hoc committee of Yuba Nevada and Butte Counties to work to successfully secure hundreds of millions of dollars of public and private investment.
2. What steps will you take to decrease the size of government?
As your assemblyman I will work to decentralize State Government from Sac. And work to halt the state from seizing local government funds because they cannot control spending. Wherever there is duplication of effort between state, federal or local levels of government, I will work to eliminate it. Other states use zero based budgeting and compel agencies to validate their continuation. This can also be enhanced by the use of sunset clauses in some cases.
3. Do you think human-caused global warming is a true and/or significant problem?
“Global warming” is a hoax. In fact the left has abandoned this dubious term in favor of “global climate change”. We now know that global climate change has been the norm throughout history. Changes in solar activity, natural off gassing of our oceans and other natural processes drive variations in global climate.
These processes are beyond human influence. Even if everyone adopted the Kyoto Protocols on emissions, it would have no impact on global temperature variations. Therefore, I do not support Assembly Bill 32 the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. The implementation of this misguided legislation is having a devastating effect on California’s businesses and economy. AB 32 is making California less competitive and forcing businesses out of state.
4. Do you endorse or oppose Proposition 98, the California Property Owners and Farmland Protection Act?
I’ve joined with the California Alliance to Protect Property Rights, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and many others in supporting this important effort to protect private property rights. For some, protecting property rights is a slogan; I had a recall attempt against me by environmentalists for standing firm for private property rights.
